The Engineering Aide will be responsible of the less complex survey field work in the areas of construction surveying, drafting of survey field notes, land survey record research, basic understanding of survey methods and procedures; and performs other related duties as required. As the candidate progresses, they advance to the Survey Engineering Technician I and subsequently Survey Engineering Technician II, these classifications will be responsible for performing intermediate to advanced level field surveying work that includes a variety of professional tasks that include, but are not limited to the following: preliminary, boundary, design, topographic, GPS, Geodetic, right-of-way, photogrammetric, and construction surveys. The incumbent will also reduce and analyze field observations, be familiar with opening and editing CADD data, setting up and operating survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, and Level), computing horizontal and vertical alignments, computing cut sheets for construction staking, and performing land records research for various capital improvement projects.

Competitive Candidates will Possess:
1. Prior experience in field work within the construction industry or have survey field experience
2. Data entry experience
3. A background which demonstrates that the candidate is mechanically inclined
The Engineering Aide and Engineering Technician I / II are part of the Engineering Technician Series. The Engineering Aide is a natural progression underfill for Engineering Technician I, and the Engineering Technician I underfills the Engineering Technician II. Incumbents are eligible to promote to next level in the series without a competitive recruitment upon successful completion of their probationary period, a satisfactory performance evaluation, acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to progress, and meeting any additional qualification requirements. This non-competitive growth promotion occurs at the department’s initiation.
The level at which the position(s) will be filled is at the department’s discretion and based on candidate qualifications.
