The Surveying & Mapping Technician IV, within the Geodetics & Mapping Team 1, is an advanced journey level position performing right-of-way & title work as a technical specialist. This position acts as a lead and will assist with the team’s support to Metropolitan's Real Property Group, Legal Counsel, Water Resource Management, and Engineering Services Group.

The right-of-way and title work will includes: preparation of legal descriptions and exhibit maps; analyzing title reports and interpreting complex title issues; conveying complex title issues to other teams; interpreting deeds and determine rights associated with the provisions within the deeds. This work will require a thorough understanding of easements and encumbrances; ability to understand and work closely with real property managers and attorneys; ability to interpret Engineering drawings and provide guidance to Professional Engineers in regard to property boundaries and street right-of-way limits; experience with Microstation and/or equivalent CAD software; ability to interpret Record of Survey maps; Knowledge of the California Professional Land Surveyors Act; Knowledge of the California Subdivision Map Act; Ability to organize, budget, and track right-of-way work involving large complex engineering projects.

This is primarily an office position but may require some field work and occasional travel within Metropolitan’s service area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate and eight years of progressively increasing responsibility work experience in office and/or field survey work; or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and six years of relevant experience; or two years in a MWD Survey and Mapping Technician III classification.

Relevant Experience is defined as:

Experience working on right of way projects, interpreting title reports, prepare legal descriptions and exhibit maps under the direction of a licensed land surveyor, interpret Deeds and Record of Surveys. Knowledge of the California Professional Land Surveyors Act and Subdivision Map Act.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
