As the Survey Team Leader at Lumos & Associates, you will have the opportunity to build and lead our new office in El Dorado Hills, CA.

You will have the freedom, flexibility as well as resources and support of the organization to develop relationships with clients, identify and pursue projects and new business, manage client projects from field to finish, and recruit, hire and mentor a multidisciplinary team of surveyors and other technical support.

Within the first 30 days and ongoing:

Learns Lumos & Associates core values, services, processes, and procedures.
Travels to the Reno/Carson/Tahoe office within the first 3 weeks to meet colleagues in-person; Director of Surveying, Lumos team, Human Resources, Accounting, and Business Development team.
Discusses with the Director of Surveying ideas for how to approach business development and balancing that while staying on top of assigned projects and tasks.
At 2-3 weeks, is assigned to 1-2 surveying projects; learns through hands-on experience the type of projects Lumos does and how to work with the team.
By 45 days, presents a 12-month plan of action to execute relationship building/networking and goals for project work, team structure and hiring to the Director of Surveying for review.
3 months and ongoing:

Identifies 2-3 surveying opportunities and creates and sends out detailed responses to entities who have sent out RFQs or RFPs where Lumos & Associates would be a competitive option.
Attends weekly meetings with the Director of Surveying and other office team Leads to discuss staffing and resources for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Follows up regularly to discuss ideas and provide guidance on projects including complex right of way and boundary surveys, individual parcel maps, and large-scale topographic mapping in forested terrain.
Attends professional organizations’ networking and marketing events as the public face of Lumos & Associates, utilizing marketing collateral and any business development team tactics or relationships to continuously build a pipeline of potential clients and expand the brand recognition.
6-9 months and ongoing:

Is 100% independent in role, living Lumos & Associates core values and is seen as a trusted partner to clients and fellow employees.
Has hired and is mentoring at least 1 person to the surveying team based on the identified need for support with projects.
Continues to build and maintain relationships with current clients as well as add value with the relationships being built with new and potential clients. Is gaining momentum and ramping up in terms of identified potential project work in the future, being added to client call-lists for projects, etc.
Has generated $50k in new revenue based on contracts west of the Sierra Crest.
12 months and ongoing:

Has generated $750k annually in new contract revenue west of the Sierra.
Has made a total of 3 hires based on identified needs for project support.
Is managing 15-20 ongoing projects brought in through networking and relationship building & is managing the proposal process independent from the main office.
Determines year 2 targets and goals for the office and lays out a plan for achieving goals including business development efforts, number of bids sent out monthly, and hiring new staff.


10+ years’ progressive experience in relevant Surveying consulting/project management required
2+ years in leadership/managerial role working and leading technical staff required
6+ years technical hands-on experience preferred
Proven expertise in developing and managing new business opportunities & client proposals required
Bachelor’s degree in Geometrics, Geomatics, or related field preferred
Registered as a Professional Surveyor in California a plus; ability to obtain Professional Surveying license in California within 6 months of hire date required
Experience in municipal infrastructure design projects required, experience in public works a plus
Proven experience using computer-aided surveying software, Photogrammetry and LiDAR required
Advanced working knowledge and experience with various programs including Microsoft Outlook for email, Teams, Excel, and Word required
Proven experience using Project Information and or Project Management software required
Collaborative team player able to lead strategy with persistent execution required
Self-starter and hungry to lead initiatives that will grow and expand a business’s footprint in a dynamic, fast-paced and deadline driven environment required
Outstanding results-oriented track record with excellent time/project management required
Proven experience successfully building trust, empowering people/teams, and making cross-functional cooperation happen in a highly engaged manner required
Ability to work Possesses a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record required
