Supervising Land Surveyor, San Diego County Water Authority

The Supervising Land Surveyor plans, organizes, inspects, supervises and participates in the work of staff engaged in a variety of specialized, technical and professional tasks and activities associated with surveying the Water Authority's rights of way, records management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS); performs a variety of professional tasks and activities in conducting land surveys; prepares field notes, sketches, maps and survey reports; reviews survey work performed by consultant surveyors and paraprofessional technical staff; and performs related duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for supervising a team of two survey technicians and will be assisting the Right of Way Manager with formulating and developing unit goals and objectives. This position is also responsible for supporting the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and making budget recommendations. The ideal candidate will have solid communication skills and be able to mentor and develop technical abilities of assigned staff. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

- Outstanding collaboration and team building skills.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements, communicate effectively, and collaborate with engineers and consultants.
- Prior experience with employee supervision and training, including performance evaluation.
- Knowledge of GIS technology, manual drafting, AutoCAD and Carlson software.
- Strong technical land surveying background.
- Ability to create topographic mapping from drone photography.

Optional Hybrid Work Schedule:
The Water Authority has embraced a hybrid work schedule to offer employees flexibility and work-life balance. An option to telework up to 3 days per week and work onsite 2 days per week is available for this position. Employees authorized to telework must be able to report to Water Authority facilities as needed, depending on the operational needs of the department and/or area of assignment. Additionally, employees assigned to work at the Kearny Mesa office work a 9/80 schedule, where the entire facility is closed every other Friday. While onboarding and training, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.
