[font="]The Engineering Bureau consists of three distinct and interrelated divisions: Construction Management, Program Management and Design. The Construction Management Division is responsible for managing construction contracts awarded by the Board of Harbor Commissioners, providing various surveying services and managing the Port’s Labor Compliance Program. [/font]
[font="] Port of Long Beach is seeking Administrative Interns to perform routine, non-professional engineering work on a survey party.
This is an unclassified (Non-Civil Service) position generally used for employment opportunities for college students in Engineering and Surveying. Interns usually work seasonal or on short term projects.
For this position, the selected candidates will work a minimum of 20 hours per week; up to a total of 1600 hours in a year.[/font]
Responsibilities and duties include:
Ø[font="]Assists in construction staking [/font]
Ø[font="]Measures distances with surveying chain or electronic equipment [/font]
Ø[font="]Operates construction leveling equipment [/font]
Ø[font="]Operates precise leveling equipment [/font]
Ø[font="]Performs varied field and office calculations using calculators and computers [/font]
Ø[font="]Makes sketches and field notes [/font]
Ø[font="]Occasionally operates survey instruments including RTK GPS and total stations [/font]
Ø[font="]Assists in the operation of a boat and special equipment on hydrographic surveys [/font]
Ø[font="]Sets out and removes traffic warning flags and barrier cones [/font]
Ø[font="]Carries survey instruments and equipment [/font]
Ø[font="]Cleans and cares for instruments and tools [/font]
Ø[font="]Drives survey truck incidental to primary assignment [/font]
Ø[font="]Other related duties as required[/font]
Qualifications:

Ø[font="]Be currently enrolled in surveying or engineering courses [/font]
Ø[font="]Possess a thorough knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry [/font]
Ø[font="]Have the ability to perform physical labor involved in field surveying [/font]
Ø[font="]Valid California driver's license[/font]
