Mr. Wooley represents classic dissidence and further, civil disobedience. Classic Thoreau. A land surveyor, and further a self taught land surveyor.
CLSA needs to back off, it's board needs to remember its obligations to CLSA as a whole. The "if you don't like it then go somewhere else" idea will kill CLSA certainly, finally, and with authority. CLSA will go down like Stalin.
Surveyors are like bobcats, not domesticated cats. Surveyors are a wild bunch. Policing surveyors is like shining a spotlight on roaches in the dark. Now what?

CLSA is not the only board I am on. I have been on a couple where the webmasters got their panities in a bunch, like here, and what happened; in one case is was simple matter of the webmaster preferring to go to car shows and a bunch of the members set up a half day cruise and it was a success - in response he shut the board down, so we started a new board and club and his club and board are history. Another, the knowledgeable people left and started a new board now the old board is left with those who think they know the answers but really don't.
It's not that hard to set up a new board, I can't do it but I am sure there are those on here that can.
I sincerely hope our webmasters are not the kind to take their ball home because of some criticism, but if that's what they want to do so be it.
Correct me if i am wrong, but isn't there another association representing Land Surveyors in CA?

Defund govt
To fully fund govt first the national debt would have to be paid. The US Govt is $18 TRILLION in debt, using 350 million people in the USA it would require $51,000 from every man, woman and child to pay it off. And that's just the Federal debt. Did you write your check yet?

This happens in every debate.
To start, while it may be your opinion that some folks are "misguided", this statement creates what I sense is as an uncalled for "tone". Name calling certainly does not advance the debate, one itoa.
I was under the impression that CLSA is a democratic organization. It is a fine thing to remind folks of our mission statement and in a perfect world we would need only one rule ACT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL.
The real root of the question what is a professional? Or what does it mean to act as a "professional" To some degree, the appellation of the term "professional" to an individual, is beyond the control of that individual. Society decides who is or is not a "professional". This fact does not relieve the individual who seeks to be seen as a "professional" from the responsibility of striving to rightfully deserve the title. A fair assessment, may well be that no matter what effort is expended, the individual may never be seen by society as a professional.
Aside from the societal view of the "professional", there is an industry view of the term "professional". So what segment of the industry gets to decide what it means to be a "professional"?

Selective enforcement.
If there are rules then they should be enforced uniformly.
If the rules apply to some and not others then this forum is doomed just like some other forums I can think of.

STORM IN A TEA CUP
That's all this is. Another soapbox certain people have to jump on and start tooting their horn...
I like Wooley's posts. He's the type of guy I could probably get along with. I don't know why his post was pulled, maybe Dave pulled it himself..but, it really doesn't matter.
BTW...I just donated to this forum an extra large heavy duty reinforced (Titanium) soapbox so there will be enough room for all the horn tooters..ohh yes! Underneath the box is an extra large container of brass polish, for those horns.

It won't be long now.
Cassandra says,"this portal is doomed to account for it own folley". "The foolish will dance with glee upon their own tombs all the while singing ,We are stardust.
We are golden. And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden. ." "At least that is what the chicken entrails say."

A little perspective
From chicken little.
The only thing missing from this video is a call for a legal opinion. Although they did show an Alcorn. Pardon my spelling.

Would you be saying that we are an ornery bunch and trying to get us to "Play well with others" is like trying to herd a bunch of bobcats?LS_8750 wrote:Mr. Wooley represents classic dissidence and further, civil disobedience. If so, I do believe that I agree with you, sir.

And this board is like a sheep dog. Surveyors I know are all lone wolves, worse than engineers. Even those that attend CLSA meetings are there for the social interaction.
This board & beerleg are great for peer review, education, and group problem solving. Ham handed pulling of posts and prohibition of posting other works (e.g. all deeds, descriptions, maps, R/S, corner records) makes it impossible to do this, and will turn this board into a half-rate complaints forum.
There's no reason to stick around with the new rules in place.

Surveyors have always been a different breed.
We go where others fear to tread.
We do white collar work on the hood of a pickup in jeans and flannel shirt.
We seldom totally agree because by nature we are always skeptical of the norm
We prefer to prove it to ourselves.
Being someplace different every day is fuel for our well being and sanity.
I am sure others can add to the list, but you get the drift
