O'Dell Engineering is a civil engineering and land surveying company with headquarters in Modesto, California. We are currently seeking a survey field manager. This position is full-time, eligible for health benefits, profit sharing, and paid-time-off. We are a high-quality firm that prides itself on high standards of professional practice on projects in our local and regional communities. The salary range for this position is 55K to 75K a year, depending on experience. An LS or LSIT is preferred, but not required.

Here is the job description:

Survey Field Manager (Mapping Department)
The survey field manager works directly under the survey manager to ensure efficient, safe, and accurate execution of field surveys. This includes topographic surveys, boundary surveys, terrestrial laser scanning surveys, and bathymetric surveys. The responsibilities of the survey field manager include:

1) Planning for the execution of field surveys. As part of the planning process the survey field manager performs the following tasks:
a) Reviews the scope-of-services to determine the mapping limits and purpose of the survey.
b) Researches and obtains information on existing survey control required for the project.
c) Researches and obtains information on existing utilities within the mapping limits.
d) Selects the methods of survey and establishes requirements for on-site survey control.
e) Prepares field packages (exhibits, instructions, and supporting documents) for the field crews.
f) Coordinates site access and requirements for traffic control.
g) Reviews filed survey maps, deeds, and other documents to determine requirements for boundary surveys.
h) Prepares property corner monument search points and search exhibits.
i) Maintains the proper encroachment permits, radio licenses, and other regulatory documents needed for field crew operation.

2) Reviews field data for ALL mapping department surveys. This includes the following tasks:
a) Reviews field notes, site photos, dip diagrams, and sketches after ALL field surveys for the mapping department.
b) Processes all raw data using Trimble Business Center.
c) Adjusts survey networks, traverses, and level loops as needed.
d) Reviews raw data to ensure proper procedures were followed and survey control is suitable.

3) Provides field crew training. This includes the following tasks:
a) Trains field crews on new survey equipment and survey methods.
b) Ensures field crews work in a safe manner. Manages field crew safety program.
c) Visits field crews on site to review field survey instructions and to ensure safe working practices.
d) Trains crews to properly maintain and adjust field equipment.
e) Ensures field equipment and field trucks are clean, organized, and in good working condition.
f) Ensures field crews have access to the proper safety equipment required for their work.
g) Assists field crews with the execution of field surveys when needed.

4) Project Management
a) Assists the survey manager with preparation of scope-of-service documents and fee estimates.
b) Works with the construction survey department manager to maintain an up-to-date field schedule.
c) Works with the mapping department manager to ensure field crew workload is balanced and field crews are fully utilized.
d) Works with the mapping department manager to develop and implement field survey standards.
e) Works with the mapping department manager to develop and implement effective field-to-office workflows.

5) Construction Surveying
a) Assists the construction survey department manager with construction surveying calculations and field data processing as needed.
