MBS Land Surveys is seeking a SURVEY TECHNICIAN for our office in San Luis Obispo (California Central Coast).
MBS Land Surveys performs boundary, topographic, control and construction surveys for private clients and public agencies. Our projects include: subdivisions, commercial and residential projects, public works improvement projects (water, sewer storm drain), schools, oil and gas facilities, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.
The Survey Technician responsibilities include:
Field Tasks:
Boundary Surveys
Topographic surveys
GPS control surveys (static)
FEMA Flood Elevation Certificates
Supervise and assist other field crew members
Office tasks:
Title research for legal parcel determination (chain of title)
Deed research for boundary surveys
Boundary resolutions for sequential and simultaneous conveyances
Preparation of legal descriptions and exhibit maps
Coordination with clients regarding survey requests and scheduling
CAD drafting utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D
Proposal preparation (scope of work, cost estimates and contract review)
Prepare Parcel Maps, Tract Maps, Records of Survey and Corner Records for submittal to public agencies
Review and plot easements from title reports
Prepare ALTA surveys
QA/QC review of construction calculations, reports, legal descriptions
The Survey Technician will serve as a Survey Party Chief, independently performing various field surveys (boundary surveys, topographic mapping, ALTA surveys, subdivision maps, and construction staking) utilizing robotic total stations and/or RTK GPS equipment. Office duties will include performing research, calculations, CAD drafting for ALTA surveys, subdivision maps, records of survey and corner records.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
5-years field surveying experience as a party chief performing boundary, topographic and construction surveys OR:
Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering, Geomatics or related field and 2 years of experience as party chief or CAD draftsperson
Proficiency with setup and operation of Trimble Robotic Total Stations (S6) and Trimble (R8) RTK GPS receivers
Proficiency in the field with TDS software (data collection, stakeout, adjustments, upload & download)
Knowledge of basic surveying principles (levelling, traverse adjustments, GPS, trigonometry, and geometry)
Proficient with error checking
Expert knowledge and proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D software, including knowledge of points, styles, surfaces, alignments, and database management
OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS
Land Surveyor in Training Certificate (LSIT) for California
Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or related field
Post-processing of static GPS data (Trimble)
Compensation:
$20-35 per hour DOE, health plan, 401k
