LOCATION: ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SECTION, CARSON FIELD OFFICE
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Land Surveyor, leads, plans, coordinates, evaluates, and participates in the work of a land survey crew.
JOB SUMMARY—Duties and responsibilities include:
- Oversees and instructs a survey crew conducting horizontal and vertical surveys using accepted methods with manual and digital equipment
- Performs preliminary surveys for the design of sewer lines, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfills
- Performs surveys to construct sewer lines, pumping plants, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfill facilities
- Setting ground controls for aerial surveys; locate facilities and property boundaries
- Files property surveys and corner records with the appropriate City or County Recorder's Office (Survey Party Chief II only)
- Trains new crew members and updating the entire crew regarding procedural and equipment changes
- Interprets design drawings and obtaining background information for the survey
- Uses correct nomenclature of trees, plants, fences, soils, pipes, and other structures for field notes
- Records, draws, and sketches survey records, maps, topography, cross section, and benchmark runs
- Performs calculations for traverses, triangulation, curve data, and grades; drives to and from various job sites
- Attends to personnel related issues involving crew members
- Meets with the public, contractors, and operations staff and design engineers
- Approves and prioritizes the daily work schedule for job assignments; submits time records for workers performing the work of other crew members in their absence as necessary; conducts crew safety meetings.
