Survey Position(s) North State Land Surveying, Mt. Shasta

Post by 3480 »

Technician / Crew Chief

About North State Land Surveying:

We are a small, family owned land surveying company located in Mount Shasta, California. We have been operating in Siskiyou County since 2004. We specialize in cadastral surveys, particularly large tracts of wooded timber land and public lands. We also provide property surveys, subdivisions, geodetic control surveys, easements, boundary line adjustments, parcel maps, base flood elevations, topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and other services. We are licensed to operate in California, Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada. As a business and as individuals, we are family and community oriented. We appreciate and respect the beautiful and diverse areas in which we live and work, and we value and care for the people we work with and the clients we serve.

About the position:

This is a full time position that often involves overtime. The rugged, wooded terrain of many of our jobs necessitates hiking over steep, uneven ground while packing equipment, running a chainsaw for hours at a time, and working in inclement weather. Some of the jobs are local while others require out of town travel, typically within a 2-5 hour drive from Mount Shasta. There can be exposure to poison oak, bees, snakes, and other hazards common in the outdoors. The preferred weekly work schedule is 4 days of work with 3 days off, but occasionally more days per week are required.

For able and interested employees, there will be opportunity to progress in skills and responsibility, including coordinate geometry calculations, mapping, research, instrument operation, and managing a field crew.

There is also the potential, for those interested and possessing the appropriate education/certification, to gain qualifying experience necessary to take the professional land surveyor exam.

Responsibilities:

Technician:
As a starting survey technician, you will run the survey rod, pack gear and materials to and from the job site, clear line-of-sight, set up and take down tripods and bipods, blaze trees, mark property lines, run GNSS equipment, and other tasks related to field surveying. Total Station operation training will be included with instrument duties to follow. Those individuals possessing appropriate education and training will be given office duties as time allows.

Crew Chief:
Charge of a two or three-person field crew with all duties outlined for Technician above.

Minimum qualifications:

• Physical strength and stamina to hike briskly over steep or uneven ground while carrying equipment.
• Physical strength and stamina to work long days, sometimes in inclement weather.
• Physical ability to run a chainsaw for hours at a time (experience preferred but not required).
• A valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with a chainsaw and other brush cutting tools.
• Experience operating total stations and GNSS equipment.
• Experience managing a land surveying crew in the field.
• Experience with CAD.
• Higher education with an emphasis on land surveying
• Land Surveyor In Training or Land Surveyor Intern certificate.
• An interest in learning and acquiring new skills and knowledge within the field of land surveying.

Compensation:

• Starting hourly regular wages $26-$34 (typical, not guaranteed, 4-16 hours overtime weekly at 1.5 x regular wages)
• Potential for wage increases based upon mastery of new skills and additional certifications or licensure earned.
