As an unlicensed individual with some insight into how to locate or calculate a property corner, I have considered starting a business called "Fenceline Consulting". It goes something like this. You are trying to build a fence or something. You dial up Fenceline Consulting. I show up and say, "If I were you, I would put the fence corner right there, and this is why." Then I recount the evidence used to establish the corner and let the client do what they like with it.

I think this could be a popular service in states like California that have a filing requirement for land surveys.

Yes. But only half. I'm sure I will never do it but I think it could be viable if I had a contractors license and refrained from using the term 'property line'. I might lose a few CLSA friends though.

About the fenceline post by David Kendall. There is a licensee who recently had his administrative hearing for multiple complaints and causes of action against him for "staking fences". Dude should have his LS revoked in my opinion. I won't say his name on here, but he pretty much had a temper tantrum on here a couple of months ago, just before his hearing.

David K. - like I said above, the borpelsg people will shoot first and ask questions later. Very few people realize they tend to be trigger-happy. So when give them the ammo ? This all comes under the well-intentioned duty of "protecting the public".

Such a practice as you describe puts you on very thin ice; a judge might ask your owner "what does the fence represent to you?" Then you are sunk. Un-licensed persons should not be surprised at receiving a citation for such activity. I do not have a particularly high opinion of this particular borpelgs practices and track record; however that being said, I would even support them on issuing a citation for such practice. Do what it takes to get your license and protect both yourself and the public !!
