To get Riverside County records we should not have to give our personal info, including phone number, to a 3rd party to get County Records, in this case Microsoft/Outlook.

Not excusing the county, but do they actually validate the info you provide before allowing access to the records? In other words, can you provide false information and still gain access?

Jim, The Central Valley CLSA Chapter has a huge amount of record map data available, but not Yolo County. Perhaps they would appreciate a copy of your recently acquired dataset?

For other Counties that are not listed, perhaps CLSA Members would be willing to share their records with the Central Valley Chapter as well.

Under PRA law you do not have to explain why you are asking for data. it is a matter of right.

Was looking for a few maps in Yolo County today & ended up here. Hopefully the Central Valley CLSA can add them to their website so we can access the record maps. The only research online for Yolo County is Corner Records & searched by Township/Range lol...

A lot of County Surveyors rely on the sale of maps as a revenue source. I wonder what that number is; how much income is derived from the sale of recorded maps?

The revenue stream is limited to cost recovery.

I think those CR files were last updated in 2014. We no longer have an in-house County Surveyor, the function is contracted to Psomas in Auburn, so there's no one in the county offices to advocate for maintenance of online records of interest to surveyors.

A County Surveyor who has been in the area (finding pipes and filing maps)
with experience with the local data base (including quasi official maps)
is a huge benefit to the public and private surveyor.

The County doesn't check anything it's their software requirement to having to have a outlook email account and that 3rd party is asking for info that should not be required to obtain public records.

Sharepoint is a Microsoft program for "sharing" data, and you have to log into it to use it. I'm not sure why they don't just put the directory on-line, like San Mateo & Contra Costa counties do. That said, you can still drive to the recorder's office.

According to Terry, yes. He claimed that was true for other County Surveyors. Here in San Diego it is rather expensive to purchase maps. If you have further inquiries, you should consider a poll or contacting Terry. He is retired and I think living in Temecula.

As I mentioned when first posting:

There are 58 counties in California. Perhaps you could contact them and figure out who charges?

Another update: Thanks to Keith Spencer (and possibly unnamed others), Yolo County maps through mid-2019 are now online at the CLSA Central Valley Chapter's website. Due to the process in which they were acquired -- I had to harass the county for about 6 months to get this far -- there's no provision for updating the archive with maps going forward. But the scan quality of newer maps sold by commercial vendors (e.g. DataTree) is good, so they provide a fairly low-cost alternative to making the trip to Woodland and paying $11 per sheet.

Currently 26 Counties have their maps online at no cost and links are shown in the Library at the Central Valley website.
There are maps from current to a couple of years behind for another 9 counties (updated when they are available from the county surveyors or other sources}. Corner records are available for about 34 of the counties. Maybe one day they will all be online at no cost and the library can be closed.

The San Diego Union ran an article today about the problems with the City of San Diego refusing and failing to comply with the Public Records Act. The findings are frightening and consistent with all of the problems I have experienced.
