I have a note that says "found N&T per DL" anyone know what the DL is?

Found it!

It appears to be "Division of Land" and was filed with the cities prior to the Subdivision Map Act.

Let me know if it is something else, but it looks like I am off to City for some research.

Or,
maybe it could be the initials of a well know surveyor of the time. We have notes on maps around here that state "per WWB" or "CHW" or maybe it stands for "Darn Lucky" (just kidding) Division of Land sounds reasonable, but usually there is some more info to specifiy which DOL map it is.

Does this nail fit anything? did you find it . . . ?

I found it as City Records (City of Villa Park). It was before the Map Act.
The copy is actually named "Parcel Map" but it has referance "L.D. 1432"

According to the City it should have referance D.L. 1432

Apparently some Cities were useing this as as their recording info.

D.L. = Division of Land
L.D. = Land Division

Once the City accepted it was given a D.L. or L.D. number much like a Parcel Map is given a number today.

I love those old division of land maps. In a north county near me, those maps take a bit of work to find. The information is very useful most of the time.

Around my home county, during the 40's thru 60's some of the surveyors prepared unrecorded surveys "parcel maps" which were based upon approved division of land applications.

Us younger (sic) fellas had to learn which surveyors territory we are working in, then go to the firm which has his records and hopefully find an unrecorded map to use as reference for the found monument.

Our County has recieved a copious amount of these unrecorded maps and has them indexed. I wish we had them all.

Thank God for the Subdivision Map act.
