I've got a Star*Net Pro version 6.0.36. This is the full version that can process GPS and level runs. It is licensed to me and I have the dongle key. It will come with the CD and Manual. Brand new it will cost $1800 plus.

I also have the Star*TDS conversion program for converting TDS Survey raw data to the Star*Net format.

Once I sell it you can email StarNet and they will put your name in the dongle.

Please email here or: Gromatici@yahoo.com

Thanks,

How much are you selling it for?

"Also, its donation would generate a charitable deduction, rather than an income for your next tax filing!"

I assume the above was written tongue-in-cheek, but there's a common misconception that a tax deduction is preferable to taxable income. Not to denigrate the societal value of donating to charity, but from a strictly financial perspective any income is worth more than any deduction any day.

A tax deduction is the government's way of partially compensating a taxpayer for incurring a loss. It can be in the form of a loss that the government wants to help mitigate (like a casualty loss), or it can be spending on an activity the government wants to encourage (like home ownership). Either way, the deduction still represents a loss to the taxpayer.

I know a woman whose financial advisor once told her that she should buy a house or condo because she "needed deductions." I'm surprised he didn't tell her to shop for a loan with the highest interest rate while she was at it, because it would give her a larger deduction.

Donating

Donating is a good way to get rid of old stuff that is taking up space in the office and a tax deduction is better than a kick in the pants. The cost of storing old stuff for years has to be figured into the cost of keeping it around too.
Donating to the Education Foundation has to be less painfull than posting on ebay or craigslist and you can feel like you have done something positive for Land Surveying Students. I would not twist anyone's arm to get them to donate, but overall it is a good thing.
