Remember we used to see parcel map compiled by record data as long as one can locate 2 found record monuments.
Someone told me that this is not allowed anymore per the recently updated SMA 66448. Now to do compiled map, one needs to find 4 record monuments within a block. Anyone knows if this is true?

§66448 does not speak to any particular number of mouments needing to be present, only that sufficient monuments be present. It does not state that any need to be measured in connection with the current PM project, only that they be present.

Conceivably, you could just take a stroll around the property, satisfy yourself that there is sufficient monumentation and that those monuments are the ones shown on the record maps, and proceed to work entirely from those record maps.

Any more stringent requirements likely come from local ordinance.

Not really pertaining to the question at hand, but I hate 'compiled maps'.

In LA County and the 44 cities we check for, we interpret the new compiled map requirements (see below), to in almost all cases, require the block to be layed out with sufficient centerline intersection monuments at the four corners so that the exterior boundary and interior parcel lines (if any, most are condo maps on a previous recorded lot) can be retraced.

Attached is a typical compiled map meeting our requirements.

66448. In all cases where a parcel map is required, the parcel map
shall be based upon a field survey made in conformity with the Land
Surveyors Act when required by local ordinance, or, in absence of
that requirement, shall be based either upon a field survey made in
conformity with the Land Surveyors Act or be compiled from recorded
or filed data when sufficient recorded or filed survey monumentation
presently exists to enable the retracement of the exterior boundary
lines of the parcel map and the establishment of the interior parcel
or lot lines of the parcel map.

Key words "Local Ordinance" SMA is not the final word, will also have to comply with other "stuff", my county requires all parcel corners and road r/w to be set.
