It is with sadness that I post the news that a regular contributor to this forum, Steven Gardner, passed away a few days ago.

I heard the news from another contributor here. Steven lost his battle with stomach cancer only a couple of months after having discovered it.

Those of us who knew him through his many posts here and on other forums will miss his contributions. Beyond our online conversations here, I had met Steven at CLSA chapter meetings and exchanged occasional emails but didn't really know him very well beyond that.

I do know that he was a fine surveyor and a fine human being, and his absence leaves a void in the surveying community and elsewhere.

My sincere condolences and prayers go out for his family and friends.

His posts on here and other sites will be missed. He seemed like a good guy.

I was just reminded of him yesterday at our CLSA chapter meeting here. Mike Pallamary was our speaker and I bought a copy of his new book, The Curt Brown Chronicles and he's mentioned in the acknowledgements (along with others who are frequently on here) regarding his contributions to land surveying through his postings on the CLSA forum and other forums. I was wondering why I hadn't seen him on here lately.

My condolances to his family. His input will be missed around here.

Boy, that is really sad news. I had no idea he was ill. We had communicated via e-mail several times over the years. I also enjoyed his many posts here and on the old RPLS site. I really appreciated his input since he was also a small land surveying business owner in the Central Valley.

I wish his family peace at this time.

Steve was a friend; I was really shocked by the news and didn't know he had been ill.

He was one of the good guys and will be missed.

I did not know the man, but always enjoyed him on this forum. Very sad.

There is a feature on Steve Gardner in the September issue of the Sacramento Chapter Focal Point newsletter - an autobiography he posted on the RPLS Forum back in 2008, and comments from Dave and Evan. I'm sad that I had only met him at Chapter meetings a couple times, but did not get the opportunity to really know him.

About 5 mins ago I thought about Steve and decided to Google his phone number and give him a call...we spoke many times on the phone, and now I see this.

First Hobbs now Steve...

Steve passed away in the summer of 2011. We have lost many throughout the state over the last year.

I thought that post looked familiar. It was one year ago Sunday that Evan posted the notice. Steve was a good one.

Has anyone heard how his family is doing?
