See the following link for an interesting perspective on LightSquared's proposed 'Antenna Solution' to the interference issue. The article does a good job of showing why there is no easy fix for LightSquared's proposed operations - and this is only from the aviation point of view.

By no means is this issue resolved yet; even though it seems evidence is mounting against LightSquared, they have increased spending on lobbyists, radio and other media ad campaigns and the like to continue pushing their point of view on the subject. Unfortunately, a suprising amount of media coverage on this subject takes LightSquared's press releases and statements at face value, with no fact checking going on, helping inadvertantly to promote the 'legitimacy' of the LightSquared side of this debate. For anyone who has done their homework, this LightSquared 'legitimacy' is almost non-existant. Unfortunately, LightSquared has played the game well enough for this to still be a very serious issue for our profession.

No, I don't expect it anymore, and I don't disagree in the least with your viewpoint (thats exactly how this whole thing has played out). It's just a sad state of affairs when all you have to do is spend the most money pushing your side to win on the particular issue. Right or wrong, let alone logic and facts, don't seem to matter any more. If they did, this LightSquared thing would never have gotten off the ground.

Today's OC register had a article about a convicted lobbiest that wrote a book about how bad the system is.

Our govt is run by the big money. A local rep named Jefferies says he and others cannot keep up with the paper (legislation) going thru Sac and everyone goes off what they are told. Many bills are gutted and rewritten at the last minute such as a divorce proceeding bill just before final vote becomes enhanced smog law bill. ~1800 bills were enacted in 2010. Who can read, esp legalese, that much.
A federal rep quit because his job when he got to Washington was to raise money. He spent 12-16 hrs a day fundraising for the "Party".

Our system is broken and maybe the only way to fix it is to cut off it's food, no money no govt. Some say the American people are best served when congress is out of session.
