Some months ago I was berated because I could not see the justification, especially for a CA surveyor, to spend thousands of dollars in time and fees to be a certified fed land surveyor.
I just read a article in The American Surveyor 2013 vol 10 no 4 titled The science of Chaos and it's application to surveying and have to wonder why any competent land surveyor would want to work under or near BLM direction.

I read the same article and there are too many negatives to respond to.
Sounded like to me a disgruntled former employee?
I had 31 years with BLM and damn proud of it.
Your ending statement does not speak well for your understanding of Land Surveying!

I read the article as well a while back. It smacked of someone who has an agenda against Federal Surveyors.
Frankly, in my 30+ years (27 private sector) of surveying, I have found far more private surveyors who have literally 'ignorant' the proper PLSS procedures, than Federal surveyors who have 'screwed the pooch' when dealing with patented lands adjoiners.

From what I read of this article, the writer does not have a clue about the legalities and procedures of BLM surveys/resurveys.
Sounded like a disgruntled GS-5 technician.
