Position and Duties
The Department of Public Works is recruiting for a City Land Surveyor, in the Engineering Services Division. This position manages the Survey Section of the Public Works Department, consisting of approximately 15 employees.
Duties and responsibilities
The incumbent will be in charge of providing professional land surveying services to the City of San José. Such services include the following:
•Preliminary engineering surveying and topographies for capital improvement projects
•Legal description and plat preparation for City property and right-of-way acquisition
•Construction staking for capital improvement projects
•Boundary surveys of City lands
•Computerized mapping and data reduction
•Subdivision map review for technical correctness per Municipal Code requirements and the Subdivision Map Act
•Review of capital improvement project plans/specifications and survey maps for conformance with local and state ordinances
•Review, evaluation, and approval of land surveying work performed by consultants
•Survey monument preservation.
•Development and maintenance of citywide horizontal and vertical surveying control systems.
•Establishment of guidelines to maintain professional, technical, and legal standards mandated by State law.
•Preparation of staffing plans and operating budgets.
•Manages consultant agreements for land surveying and photogrammetric surveying.
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills and a strong work ethic. This position requires excellent judgment, initiative, perseverance, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility, and written and verbal communication skills.
