I am in the process of figuring out what GPS unit I want to upgrade to. Currently I have a Leica 500. Since the software has completely changed, there will be a learning curve with either system. I have not been able to find any information as to the ProMark being a compatible with a base station as well as being a network rover. The iRover has been upgraded recently and can is now compatible with a base station.

Any "real user" comments would be greatly appreciated.

I won't go into a lot of detail here since I am new to the Promark 220 as of a few months ago. My main interest was in a lightweight setup that would not require the second base unit. I honestly did not do much research on all the systems out there; I built up some confidence over the years with my local dealer and knew he could support me when needed.

For me, having to work with two units is a mistake in terms of security and theft. If you leave a unit alone, you can be lucky for a long time, but eventually it has to disappear just like any total station will.

The Promark does not work with radios; it uses the built-in cell phone card to access the network on-line. So it all depends on being lucky enough to have most jobs that are not in any "dead areas".

I have not seen any RTK systems that come close to the accuracy of careful work with my total station or my old T-2 theodolite. Only the post processing static receivers did that.

Someone said GPS is another tool in your toolbox to get the job done in light of field conditions out there.
