Happy holidays to all,

I can use some help on a software issue. I have recently upgraded my computer to 64 bit Windows 8.1 and I am working with some new survey data. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best software to use with cr5, tds, and job files? I am trying to import some old data and my software doesn't want to talk to the new windows version.

Thanks in advance.

I hope the holidays treat you well and that you are blessed with good health. Every day is a gift.

Mike,

We use Trimble Business Center (TBC), v 3.1, with Windows 8, 64 bit. No problems. TBC says it reads TDS RAW files. I do not know for sure.

We also run Carlson software on the same machines with no problems.

Good luck.

Mike, you may want to look at StarNet. I have found it to be a really good, intuitive survey software program. Here is a link to a page with their conversion utilities.

Not sure if it will meet all of your needs. but, JIC....

Mike,

Have you tried "Compatibility Mode" ? I have no experience w/ Win 8 but this works in Win 7 64. I have been able to install and run all of my old software this way.

Here is some info from Microsoft:

When windows 7 came out I was told at Micro center that "You need to upgrade all your peripherals". I told them I'll never spend $40k because a new windows program in a $1K computer doesn't like my old software. Windows XP here.

I second JRM's suggestion to use 'compatibility mode' within your new version of Windows. It allows you to run legacy software in a virtual Windows XP environment. Does not always work, but it is worth a shot.

Or a 4 year old $100 laptop that you can put away when not being used.

FWIW, TDS SurveyLink works fine in Win7 64bit and it's 10 years old.
