Dear CLSA Friends,The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) has posted a webpage re: the GPS on bench mark (GPSBM) campaign in commemoration of National Surveyors Week (March 16-22, 2014), sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS).
The page can be found here: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/heightmod/GPSonBM.shtml .
Information presented includes state-specific lists and maps ranking priority bench marks for occupation by GPS to help improve future versions of the national hybrid geoid model (successors to GEOID12A). The process of utilizing OPUS to share your results with NGS (and the public) is summarized.
The information presented is applicable not only to the week-long NSPS celebration, but to GPS occupation of bench marks made at any time for the purpose of improving future geoid models.
There is much room for improvement in the GPSBM coverage in most states here in the West. You can help make those improvements!
You might also find the free DSWorld software (available here: http://geodesy.noaa.gov/PC_PROD/PARTNERS/index.shtml ) to be a handy tool for displaying/exploring the accuracy of the current GEOID12A model and existing NAVD88 BMs as well as for information about all NGS horizontal and vertical control.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I hope to see you out in the field and/or at the CLSA/NALS conference!

best regards, Bill Stone - NGS
