I was wondering what others were doing to handle with the recent loss of XP support. I'm not keen on getting a new computer or upgrading to Win 8. I've seen ads on TV, etc. about that PCmatic company who claims that there software can keep your system running XP with the appropriate patches, etc. Anybody try this? Thanks.

Sadly, I've pulled the internet plug on my extremely trusty XP desktop at home. Really, really hate it that it's come to this. Anyway, thanks for the tip on the PCmatic workaround; considering that some 30% of all computers are XP, I figured some enterprising 3rd party would jump on the opportunity.

When I got that notice from microcrap I did a happy dance. The last upgrades forced fed into it (4 of them at once) my computer had a upset stomach for over a day.
If I understand it they are eliminating security upgrades and any good anti virus software is better then microcrap anyway.,

Good articles. And I ran across another great suggestion: create an icon for Network Connections and only enable the connection right before you need to get on the internet. When you're done, disable it. I figure that I will only occasionally need to "get on" anymore, maybe 20 minutes per week, for one reason or another. Good idea to "disable" for the other 99.8% of the time.
