The crew sent this one in from a job from last week. Pretty elaborate markings on the cap.

what is the diameter of the cap or disc?

Ryan, I found quite a few of FFF's monuments in and around Santa Barbara County. Most of the time, surveyors are excited to find his monuments because they pretty much land where he said he put them. Those casts are pretty remarkable for the time period when you think about what it took to manufacturer those caps / pipes then. FFF was very active in the SB and Ventura areas especially prior to Ventura County being split off.

PS: While recently perusing Board minutes from the late 1930's, I found one meeting where FFF filed a complaint against another surveyor for improper section breakdown. He provided a very detailed testimony during the meeting.

I've never seen anything like it. Our crew's notes say 2" in diameter.

Cap is a screw on cap and it should be 3-1/2" diameter. The pipe is 2" I.D. and usually 30" long with a 1/2" I.d. pipe set through the bottom couple of inches perpendicular to the monument pipe. Definitely a monument that was dug into the ground, not driven

It's kind of nice when the cap tells you exactly what the monument represents.

Maybe that's what the crew meant on their notes. 3.5" cap in 2" IP.

The prettiest one I ever saw was MV2. Mission Viejo ranch corner #2. Brass ~2x3in rectangle with the MV in script. Was in the middle of Camino Capsitrano rd s/o of Junipero Serra Rd.

Yup seen some in Montecito. the wow factor was off the charts when i found them. Its like finding Gold.

I've had similar experience following FFF's work , as others have stated. Picture attached is of the man himself...
