I'm surprised that notice of the CLSA-sponsored OPUS Projects manager's training hasn't been posted here already, but for those interested, the 2-day classes will be held on June 9/10 in Riverside and June 11/12 in Petaluma. FYI, I've been told that Petaluma is sold out and Riverside has only 1 seat left.

Too bad. Our chapter president mentioned this last night at the meeting and I know several of us were interested, including myself. Maybe there will be enough interest to expand the offering?

Too bad, we have to put in travel authorization requests and wait to get approval before we can sign up. Have mine in right now but I didn't hear back in time.

Modesto area would be perfect, wouldn't need to pay for a hotel that way.

I know the Central Office tried to find a computer lab to hold the course in Sacramento, but they were unable to find anything. They tried to do it at Caltrans but there would have been problems getting non-Caltrans employees the ability to access their private email with Caltrans servers. Another constraint for these classes is the maximum size allowed of 30. NGS sends one instructor, who has to guide the whole class and 30 is the most they can handle due to the technical nature of the course. Hopefully we can work something out to offer it again in other parts of the state.

You can also check here to see if NGS will offer the training in another location near you. These courses are offered by NGS and registration is handled directly through them or with other organizations that are hosting them.

Caltrans invited us to participate in two days of TBC training in their computer lab on the third floor of their 30th Street building. The internet is available but I didn't try to do any non-State email. Don't most have company smart phones for email these days? I do.

I think the emails had to be accessible with whatever computer was being used during the class. Each attendee needed a computer with personal email access for the class. Scott Martin was trying to navigate through the IT of Caltrans and it proved too difficult to get past firewalls by non-Caltrans computers which would be accessing state servers inside the state firewall. Maybe it can be worked around, but Scott and his IT people couldn't figure it out.

That is true about the email being prohibited.

We have to bring software keys home to activate them because no way will the firewall allow that through.
