According to my interpretation of my calendar, it is 2014. We all have a series of tubes called the internet, and have smartphones. Can we stop requiring vicinity maps now?

I never liked them, even in the last century. There's the street that the lot fronts on, then there is almost always one or two nearest cross streets that are referred to in one way or another. For the rather unusual case of no nearby cross streets I put an arrow with a short note beneath: "to Elm Street'"

Sufficient.

I like vicinity maps. I should get to the correct Elm Street that way.

I have to agree with Bruce. Vicinity maps are helpful to clients that are not local. What is annoying to me is the map checker that continuously wants me to put the "CITY OF XXXX" within the vicinity map.

Yes, I suppose...if you have more than one Elm Street in a given city,

Street names change sometimes. A vicinity map is an easy way to let you know if you are in the right place even if the street name is different.

Go to San Diego there are intersections where every street has a different name, some change names. At least here they mostly only change name because you entered a different city.

As for vicinity maps. Years ago I am assisting a CE and we are driving to a lot survey. It's on a major N-S street but he says he doesn't know which way to go off I-10. I look and the parcel map and say north 1 mile past baseline. He says "how do you know that?" Uh, T2N LOL

Every map should have one. Just saw a north arrow that had a leaping marlin pointing ...... north. Best one I have ever seen.
