Hello fellow surveyors,

Please be on the lookout for a stolen Leica Total Station TS15. Serial number 1624741.
Stolen yesterday in San Francisco Pacific Heights by a black person in an orange vest and white hard hat. Sped off in a gold sedan.
A one person survey crew does not work in the city anymore. There is no safe neighborhood.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas of where to search for where these crooks unload something this specialized. Feel free to spread the word. I know my email list is rather small here so if someone has an email list of all bay area / or CA surveyors I would like to circulate this.

I will keep my eyes open on the East Bay.
Did they take the case too, or just instrument?
I have been keeping the case in the truck when I set up, as a potential deterrent for crooks. Hoping they don't grab and run the instrument without the case.

I hope you have reported this to Leica in Burlingame for distribution.

Sorry to hear about the loss, but it only takes a minute to run a cable through the tribrach (with the tribrach lock setscrew run in, of course), through the tripod, and around a solid object. Even when no suitable object is available, having the gun and tripod locked together serves as a significant deterrent to someone who thinks they're just going to unscrew the gun and drive off in a car. It's really cheap insurance.
