Greetings all, we are in need of feedback to prepare a National Science Foundation proposal in which East Los Angeles College, Santiago Canyon College and College of the Canyons have teamed up to submit by the end of this year. The proposal will entail advanced technological education improvements in land surveying and geospatial engineering. The goal is to “produce more qualified technicians to meet work force demands, and improving the technical skills and the general science, technology, engineering, and mathematics preparation of these technicians and the educators who prepare them (NSF-ATE solicitation 14-577)”. With that, we would truly be grateful if you can fill out the following google form. It only takes about 5 minutes to complete. Thank you for your time.

Thanks again all!

My first question is "WHAT does the dept of homeland security have to do with this?

2nd question, "If I read that right after Mr Gallegos name and etc, he is an assoc professor and principal investigator for DHS? interesting combination.

Dr. Gallegos, done.

Good luck with your NSF STEM proposal. I am glad to see that you as the PI and your team are looking to the NSF STEM program for grant money to help improve educating those teaching and the students coming to Land Surveying in technical skills.

A few years ago I had the pleasure to be a panel member evaluating proposals for NSF STEM project funds. It was an interesting experience.

I tip my hat to you and wish you the best of luck.

Land Butcher,

Apparently Dr. Gallegos got a "follow on grant" from DHS for USC-CREATE and he is simply listing it as a part of his credentials.

Secondly, Dr. Gallegos is the PI for the NSF project submittal that he is requesting feed back. That means he is the go to guy for the grant request and potential future project

I received this letter via email a few weeks ago and spent about 15 minutes one evening filling out the form. I found it interesting and I was grateful that anyone cared to hear my opinion on the topic, I believe this is a worthy undertaking.

My first thought when I started adding up all of the letters after his name was, "why does a PE need to take the Fundamentals of Surveying exam anyway, don't engineers (assuming he is a civil) get an automatic seat to the PS exam?" and secondly, "how will he gather the requisite practical land surveying experience whilst he is working in academia?"

I never even noticed the second line of his title, I suppose I was confused enough by the first...

Oh well, I'm certain this issue won't keep me awake for long tonight!
