CLSA Past President Billy Martin

I have a cloud of tears in my eyes. I worked closely with Billy when I was a director. He was a good man an an individual with a conscience and an extraordinary sense of ethics and morality. He was a good businessperson who made efficient decisions quickly and decisively. This is a sad day.

We were the same age and I suppose that is one of the reasons we related so well.

That is sad news. I've been working with Billy off and on over the past 4 years or so on a project he was a consultant for a SF agency on. I didn't know him well, but will miss his thoroughness and professionalism.

He was one of my mentors, having hired me at BKF after I graduated college. He will always be someone I think about from time to time when I am working. Very sorry to see he passed this early, and just a funny guy to hang around with. I am glad I got to touch bases with him recently.
Couple stories:
I interviewed with another schoolmate for the job. I had a good GPA, but Billy never asked about such details. Later on after I worked there for a bit, when he found out how my grades were, he said "sh*t, if I knew you were such a nerd I would have hired the other guy. I just liked you better."
Hung out with him at a Fresno Conference later on, and a few of us squeezed into his car to go to dinner somehere and he had Will Smiths "Gettin' Jiggy wit It" blasting on the CD player.
One-of-a-kind guy.

I too have known Billy for many of years and he was a class act.
You could always find him on a golf course when he was suppose to be at work, so I am told, lol.
I did not know he was sick, or what the circumstances are that he is in a better place now, but curious what happened.
