I was saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Nelson, former CALTRANS Headquarters Survey Engineer recently.
I did not know him well, however Bob was the driving force to getting the HPGN project in California in 1991 and I know of him thru that effort.
He kept everyone informed of the progress of the HPGN project by mailing out a newsletter and I found those enjoyable to read back then.
I few years ago I had the opportunity to exchange emails with him in writing a 20 year retrospective on the HPGN project (See Cal Surveyor 167).

His leadership for the California survey community was exemplary.
