Senior Land Surveyor (County of Orange)

OC Public Works and John Wayne Airport have opportunities for a Senior Land Surveyor. Senior Land Surveyors plan, organize and direct complex office and/or field surveying work. The ideal candidate will have 7 years of direct and progressive experience in surveying and possess a valid Land Surveyor's License or valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice surveying issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

The job duties depend on the work location and include but are not limited to:
  • Planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of subordinate teams.
  • Checking for accuracy and compliance with technical and legal survey procedures.
  • Evaluating employee performance, developing and providing employee training and recommending action on merit increases.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and arbitrating complex boundary problems involving discrepancies, overlaps, or gaps between ownership lines.
  • Discusses solutions with developers, sub-dividers, engineers, surveyors, title officers and city surveyors/engineers to resolve boundary problems.
  • Assigning projects to teams and serves as the project leader over multiple survey parties working together on special projects.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports on surveying projects or studies.
  • (OC Public Works) Review maps and other survey documents submitted by the public, including private engineers and surveyors.
  • (Airport) Perform technical analysis and calculations related to compliance with the FAA Advisory Circular for the purpose of operating the airport as well as planning for future improvement projects.
  • (Airport) Perform analysis of location of existing and proposed subdivisions in relationship to surfaces describing safety and operation zones surrounding a commercial airport as described in the FAA Code of Federal Regulations, PART 77.
  • (Airport) Evaluate FAA aeronautical studies and aviation easements. Complete reviews and process appropriate building and construction permits.
  • (Airport) Perform reviews, analysis, and writing of legal descriptions for aviation easements, construction easements within aviation easements, utilities and navigational equipment operation easements to municipalities and/or federal authorities within the Airport ownership, and legal descriptions for land leases and operation of vendors within the Airport properties.
