With most, if not all, Counties having their record maps on line why are we still required to submit paper copies of maps we used to base our survey on when we submit a new map?

I'm constantly getting "GO PAPERLESS" but we, at least OC, still require full size paper copies of any maps, ties, CRs that we reference on our map.

Maybe the govt people hate trees :)

In LA County you can submit it all electronically (tract, parcel, CR, ROS)

SLO County does not require copies of reference maps.

its all about time. when your map check fees are based on time spent, do you want to pay the map checkers time to look up your references? Isnt it easier (cheaper) for you to make a few copies? If you want to pay me to recreate something you have already done, that's ok i guess. Complete packages also move thru my system quicker, as i can pick up the file and most maps take less than 2 hrs., add an hour if i have to retrieve your documents that would have likely taken you 15 mins. to copy.

What's your policy with regard to unconformed copies? When I reference a prior ROS of mine on a new submittal, the only copy I can provide is the one that I prepared, as my county doesn't provide the surveyor with a conformed copy when it files a ROS. If I have to provide a conformed copy of my own map, that means a trip to the Recorder's office and $11.00 per sheet.

I am no familiar with a "conformed" copy. for me a pdf works. i will accept an electronic file of pdf's of all reference doc's, as long as i have it all in one place. Its mostly a time management issue for me. Being a staff of one, me, with alot of other duties, the simpler anyone can make a submittal for me, saves me time and your $$.

I've always said checking maps (R/S, Parcel Maps, Tract Maps) is like taking the Land Surveyor test, except the answers are given and all the references are supplied (or should be).
The work is finding the errors, if any.

How long does it take a county map checker to reach over to his/her keyboard and bring up R/S 97/208? Shouldn't take more than 60 sec, and to print an 18x26 takes most printers that long or more.

Sounds like LA and SLO counties are ahead of the game.

Conformed to the copy on file with the Recorder, i.e. it has all the signatures and seals.

ours are online as pdf and free to those that look for it. or you send me min. fee and a flash drive and i will send back with all maps to that date.

I wish Yolo County could say the same. Not only does the county not offer online maps, but most of the DataTree scans prior to 2000 or so are at such a low resolution that they're largely illegible.

Thanks for sharing. So many counties are putting information on line. Sometimes it is difficult to locate on the County website. This is so helpful!

Will the counties accept digital copies on thumb drive or cd etc.?

We are in the process of setting our system up to accept digital submittals for review.

i will accept either CD, thumb drive or a Zip file, with at least one hard copy of the prelim map.

If it keeps the cost down to review a map, I have no problems submitting paper copies.
Luckily all four counties I regularly submit maps to allow 11x17. If I had to submit full size maps, then I would grumble, lol.
I should be safe commenting here since most of these counties don't participate in CLSA (what a shame).

i have no problem with 11x17 of your reference material. fits in the folder.

In Fresno County, initial map submittals (Tracts, Parcel Maps, & Records of Survey) must be signed prints, but all subsequent communications will be with PDFs via email. We are working towards electronic submittals.

I don't expect copies of cited recorded maps, except for those recorded prior to 1940, as sometimes private surveyors have clearer copies of the older maps than I do.

Initial submittals for Corner Records can be PDFs; we only expect the signed cardstock at final.
