Survey Chain Person - Psomas

Psomas, one of the top-ranked consulting engineering firms in the nation, providing surveying, engineering, construction management and environmental services throughout the Western United States, has an opening for a Survey Chain Person in our Roseville office.
Description: Excellent opportunity to join Roseville's established innovative and knowledgeable Survey team. In this role, the chain person will assist the Party chief, with moderate supervision, in specialized field survey work by operating modern field survey instruments, and prepare survey field notes. You will have the opportunity to participate in different types of fieldwork, including but not limited to, boundary surveys, right-of-way surveys, design topographic surveys, construction staking, large control surveys, ALTA surveys, monitoring surveys and more. Intermittently, this employee may assume basic crew chief duties. This position reports to the Party chief and field supervisor.
Duties:
• Ability to set up and operate a variety of survey instruments and equipment, including total stations, data collection, digital levels/rods, and static laser scanners.
• Digital and handwritten note-keeping & sketches
• Perform level circuits for standard and precision control networks
• Assist in establish calibrations for GPS real time network surveys
• Set up and operate Trimble GPS RTK base and rover with all data collectors
• Understand and apply topographic survey procedures with total stations and GPS RTN or TRK techniques
• Understand and apply basic boundary surveying procedures
• Read and understand civil engineering plans, maps and specs, land survey maps, topographic maps and field survey notes
• Maintain hand tools, survey equipment, and survey vehicles
• Proper procedures for stake/nail/monument driving and for marking and placing guard or grade stakes and use of stationing systems
• Learn and practice good safety practices on various job sites
Qualifications:
• High school diploma with 2 years’ experience as a Chain person preferred
• Must be a member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 or be willing to join Local 3
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to accurately follow direction/instruction and work cooperatively as part of a team
• Physically capable to work outdoors for up to 12 hours a day
