This is very sad news as I knew John from some of his presentations I attended over the years and always enjoyed conversations with him at conferences and meetings. John is now in a better place with others surveying the celestial baseline.

RIP my friend!!!

Mr. Pavlik will never know how much he affected the lives of those he helped.

We should all try to emulate his graciousness and approachability.

I have cited him numerous times when teaching surveying classes and helping out with LS and LSIT exam prep groups.

I would like to thank him for what he taught me, and so many others, about surveying - and thank him for being such a positive influence in our community.

Mr. John David Pavlik passed away on February 10, 2018

On Monday, February 19, 2018 more than 125 friends and family gathered at the Aventura Sailing Club in Dana Point to celebrate the life, and mourn the passing of this truly remarkable man.

One of John’s many gifts was the ability to infect everyone he met with his love of life. Numerous people, co-workers, fellow surveyors, friends who were lucky enough to join him and his family on cruises and other travel adventures shared stories that reminded us all just how lucky we were to have known John.

Many at the memorial, like us, knew John because we shared our livelihood as land surveyors. John loved his profession and was motivated to share his wealth of knowledge. He blossomed as a teacher and mentor. His love of land surveying was obvious and combined with his fun loving personality made learning even the boring stuff fun. There are hundreds of land surveyors who credit John with helping them achieve their goal of becoming a licensed professional.

John was also very active in CLSA. He was President of the Orange County chapter in 1989. He never stopped being a source of knowledge and creative ideas to support the chapter’s goals. Our chapter members will always remember John’s look of glee when he, and his beloved wife Judy, would be draped in strings of raffle tickets they had won at the tables at the chapter’s annual casino night.

Those who knew John know he loved his profession, his friends, his many hobbies, travel and seeing new places, Elvis and a good party. Above all else, John loved his family! His soulmate Judy, his boys that he was so proud of, their wives and his grandchildren meant the world to him.

His son Shawn, with the help of the family, compiled an amazing video in tribute to his father. The video is HERE; please take a few of minutes to watch it and you will surely smile as you are reminded what an amazing person our friend John Pavlik was.

The Orange County Chapter of CLSA has started a Memorial Scholarship in John’s name. This will go to student(s) who want to become surveyors. John spent his career helping them achieve their goal of licensure. If you’d like to help continue John’s support of future surveyors, please click HERE.

John, you are deeply missed and will always be fondly remembered. We all hope you have found Elvis and are busy planning some epic parties.
