How many people use the term or title Geomatics Engineer or any other noted below, in their communications?

I note the following excerpt from the PLSA:

8751. Representing self as licensed

No person shall represent himself or herself as, or use the title of, or any abbreviation or combination of the words in the title of, professional land surveyor, licensed land surveyor, land surveyor, land survey engineer, survey engineer, geodetic engineer, geomatics engineer, or geometronic engineer unless he or she is the holder of a valid, unsuspended, and unrevoked license.

I'm surprised to see the inclusion of "geomatics engineer" in the list of allowable titles for licensed land surveyors. For my entire career the use of any form of "engineer" was verboten for LS's, but now it seems that I can legitimately claim to be one. (Not that I have any interest in doing so. I find the whole "geomatics" thing to be a bit precious.)

I guess it's been awhile since I've read that section. I prefer the title "land surveyor," so it's not been one I've had a need to check.

What about cadastral engineer? If I tell people that I am a land surveyor, licensed land surveyor or professional land surveyor they imagine me dressed in kakis out in the middle of the street disrupting traffic. Most people do not know what cadastral means, but everyone knows that “engineers” are professionals (LOL).

I hear you Jim. I've never even met anyone that called themselves a Geomatics Engineer.

Permitted Titles? I see I could weave "engineer" into some cool title, but I never have. I prefer to remain "unique" and remain a Surveyor.
Many years ago an employer had business cards printed for me "Professional Land Surveyor"... so I went with it.
I sure did not want "Amateur Land Surveyor" as my tag!

The inclusion of this title came principally out of Fresno where they emphasis geomatics. The intent was to attract more people into the profession using this title, i.e., "engineer."

OIT as well, I think they have a GIS Engineers degree.
The option when I graduated was B.S. in Geomatics or B.S. in Geomatics Engineering.

The name is much more common in Europe.

but its the L number that maters.

Does this mean we can change our tags to "GE 4000"? This name option is ridiculous, and in my opinion it has brought in no more Land Surveyors into any college program then it was before. We are, and always will be "Land Surveyors".

When my kids were growing up, I told them, "when someone asks what your Dad does, you can tell them I'm a Geometronic Engineer". That's where it's been most useful.

I'm just an LSIT, so I'm not a land surveyor. When people ask what I do, I say I'm a hair dresser. Oops, that's protected also. No I'm a barber. Oops. Vehicle mechanic. Oops again.

When the hotel toilet clogs, they call "engineering" to come and fix it.

I always tell people I'm a surveyor; I call people during dinnertime to ask them questions.
