Hybrid and electric vehicles.

As surveyors we rely on all our senses to keep us safe. I now spend a lot of time in parking lots and as the lowly rodman I am concentrating on the prism bubble, thinking about the next shot and trying to keep aware of changes in my surroundings.

Recently I have discovered that HYBRID AND ELECTRIC CARS DO NOT MAKE ANY NOISE.

I have had them come up behind me and been standing to a parked car and to my surprise it moves.

With 75% of the drivers texting, and silent vehicles we need to be more aware of what is happening around us than ever.

Good point, I've experienced the same thing lately. We've grown accustomed over the years to rely on our ears while in the road, more than we think. Take that extra moment to turn your head and look before stepping out.

Don't forget the bikers who pass by with speed of 25 mph, once you see them it's too late.

You all should come survey in the Palo Alto / Mountain View area where I repeatedly see google testing driverless vehicles!
This scares the #$@& out of me and leaving the instrument set up alone.

As for other vehicles, don't forget about electric motorcycles!

When is CLSA going to come out with a Surveyors Bobblehead, because that is what all field personnel need to act like, lol.

Be safe out there!!!

I had one kick my cones on my back sight as he went by.
