The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Survey Technician I/II in the Surveyor's Office. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future vacancies for up to three (3) months. We currently have the following vacancies:
One (1) full time vacancy located in Placerville, CA.
A training and experience evaluation may be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking for referral to specific vacancies. Based upon the information in the application and/or responses to supplemental questions, the applicant's education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical field and office survey support work, including drafting and the assignment of new addresses for parcels within the County.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Survey Technician I is the entry-level class in this technical support series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform the more routine office and fieldwork. This class is alternately staffed with Survey Technician II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.
Examples of Essential Functions:
Reviews and checks prints of pending Parcel Maps, Record of Survey Maps and Subdivision Final Maps for completeness, accuracy and conformance with the Subdivision Map Act, Land Surveyor's Act and local ordinances.
Verifies survey monuments on submitted maps and check their correspondence to adjacent maps; may make field inspections to verify accuracy and placement of monuments.
Reviews maps for correct location of easements and deeds affecting maps; notes on maps any engineering conditions.
Researches and writes legal property descriptions by metes and bounds and fractional descriptions.
Reviews preliminary title reports to identify record title interest holders, trustees, beneficiaries and deeded public access easements.
Researches and post changes to maps to reflect redistricting, annexation and other modifications effecting election processes.
Assists County planners, property owners, surveyors and engineers regarding technical requirements for boundary line adjustments and lot mergers.
Performs drafting and mapping assignments using manual or computer aided methods; makes copies of maps for the public and may prepare graphics displays, charts, diagrams and exhibits for the County departments.
Approves and processes road name changes and enforces County ordinances regulating uniform address monitoring systems; provide address verification to title companies, lending institutions, property owners and other affected parties.
Maintains and updates computer database for addresses; assigns addresses to building permit applicants and new subdivisions.
Attendance and punctuality that is observant of scheduled hours on a regular basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements (typing "See Resume" in application will not be accepted):
Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Level I: EITHER completion of two years of college OR possession of an Associate of Arts degree in a pre-engineering or closely related curriculum; OR two years of experience which have involved basic drafting and related support work.
Level II: In addition to the above, two years of surveying technical support at a level equivalent to the County's class of Survey Technician I.
NOTE: The above qualifications are typically accepted way of obtaining the required knowledge and skills
Knowledge:
Principles, practices, and terminology of surveying technical support work including drafting, mapping, survey, field inspection and address assignment.
Engineering mathematics through trigonometry.
Data collection and analysis methods.
Computer user applications related to the work.
Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment.
Skills:
Performing varied surveying technical support work.
Using drafting tools and equipment and preparing layouts, maps and graphic materials.
Analyzing survey and property ownership information, evaluating alternatives and making sound recommendations.
Making accurate mathematical calculations.
Reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications.
Operating and maintaining precision surveying instruments.
Making accurate records, sketches and notes and preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.
Making accurate field inspections and enforcing compliance with plans and specifications.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
