The Turlock Irrigation District is seeking an entry-level Seasonal Survey Technician for a period of six (6) months to serve as part of a field survey crew. This position will regularly work directly with several experienced Professional Land Surveyors performing field surveys, and affords a great deal of training opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a career in the Land Surveying field. The position is located in Turlock, California, and ranges throughout Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin, Tuolumne, and Mariposa Counties during the performance of necessary field work.

SEASONAL/ TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE – SURVEY TECHNICIAN
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT


Up to $22.00 Per. Hour / (DOE) Depending on Experience

Job Duties: Perform a variety of land surveying tasks as part of a field survey party including boundary, topographic, construction and site layout, geodetic, and project control surveys utilizing GPS and conventional land surveying equipment under supervision.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual capable of learning to operate a variety of technical survey equipment, possessing a strong work ethic, work as part of a field survey team, and perform occasional office work in connection with field data collected.

Qualifications: Any combination of experience/education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be:

Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

The ideal candidate will also have a background in mathematics and trigonometry, and be capable of occasionally performing complex calculations utilizing these skills.

Experience:
Previous related experience or education preferred, including: Land Surveying/Civil Engineering/Construction/Utility Layout/Agricultural/GIS/Irrigation Operations.

Interpersonal and Communication.
Must have ability to: understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Technical and Analytical.
Must have knowledge of: mathematics including geometry and trigonometry, modern office procedures, computer equipment and applications.

The ideal candidate will also have a basic knowledge of surveying methods and procedures, and computer assisted drafting (CAD) methods and procedures.

Necessary Requirement:
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license (Class C). At time of hire: physical exam, drug screen, background check, and a valid CA Driver's license required.

Note: Turlock Irrigation District is looking for one (1) person to hire as a Seasonal/Temporary Employee within the Survey & Right of Way Division in our Civil Engineering Department for up to six (6) months. Work hours are typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime required.
