Cadd kids have no idea of laying ink onto linen. Or how to short-shrift the life of your rapidographs when you ink on mylar.

My old friend, Nino, who was the surrealist cartoonist for the CalSurveyor . . . when he was a young man in school during the war (1940s) he had to cut his own crow quills from actual feathers in order to do his schoolwork! I believe that is the reason his artwork is so intense & detailed.

As to ink on linen... only the most skilled were permitted.
Linen was Damned expensive and a noob could hole or otherwise destroy many days of work.

That is why I eventually sprung for a set of jewel tips. Mylar ate the steel ones up fast.

yep, many times. ...but Not on a drawing.

Like the ashtray, the ink was kept below the drawing area. A least that was how I was taught.

Never on a map. The carpet below the desk looked pretty ugly.
