How many survey firms, displaying signage . . . have had their rigs stolen or broken into?

Does signage "invite" the criminal element?

"Meaningful" legislation might be Surveyor to Recorder? Or increasing, substantially, the sheet size of a Record of Survey!

Personally signage & accuracy statement proposal is more silliness. What are the nexus'? Give us some examples of these more-laws/less-freedoms urgent proposals.

IF CLSA embraces such legislation - maybe it's time to leave CLSA. The entire state does not drink Orange Kool-aid.

Do my personal license plates (IDOLOTS) count as signage?

Maybe we should also look into other professions and trades which have signage on their vehicles (i.e. engineers, architects, plumbers, HVAC, etc.) They too have valuable equipment in their vehicles yet I don't see a lot of them without signage. For them it is free marketing from the conversations I have had.

In this day and age of heightened awareness and security (I mean who doesn't have a ring doorbell camera at this point) wouldn't it be a good thing for us to be identified easily and without question?

If someone is that concerned about theft (I myself am for sure) then I take my valuables out of my car when I park at home or at the office. I also would consider maybe using magnetic signs for when you take the company vehicle out to buy groceries or get those last minute holiday gifts.

I think having a vehicle in general invites criminal intent. I use the word vehicle because how many of you have had a bike stolen before? Would taking the stickers off of my bike lessened the criminals intentions to steal my precious 10-speed?

Might as well leave your truck unlocked too, so you don't have to deal with insurance claims when they break a window!

Funny thing is, alot of the articles I have been reading say the opposite. Having a decal or wrap on your car is actually a deterrent to thieves, especially if the their intent is trying to steal the vehicle. Having a decal or wrap actually makes your vehicle easier to identify if stolen and thieves are not willing to take the risk.

I know that at our company, all valuables are brought into a safe place and out of the vehicle after every day in the field. If you are really concerned about theft, how long does it take you to unload your total station, tripods, locator, GPS units, data collectors, etc. (the high value items). You and one other person (chainman) could probably unload a vehicle full of surveying equipment in less than 15 minutes. So 15 minutes to load and 15 minutes to unload to save yourself the headache of replacing an expensive and much needed piece of equipment.

I know this doesn't help in those situations where you are running an errand after working all day or something like that but in my opinion, that six pack can wait until I get the vehicle unloaded and the valuables back safely to the office.

If your in business and do NOT unload your equipment at night, . . . . IMO you deserve to have your truck broken into.

For those who don't know, magnetic signs promote rust through the paint, causing paint damage, so have fun with that one!

Let us run our business the way WE want to, and stop acting like a California Politician. If you want signs, then put a sign on your vehicle, otherwise go pound pipes!!!

Spend the time and effort to change things that will help us provide a better service at a lower cost. Instead of creating more laws to regulate those of us who adhere to the law maybe focus on punishing those who don't.

I would like to see more effort made in prosecuting those persons in responsible charge for counties, municipalities and utility company projects who don't perpetuate existing monuments. It would be great to see an entity have to pay the full cost of the survey to reestablish any monument destroyed. I only know of one case where the city was held responsible.

Also the fine for performing a survey by an unlicensed person should be large enough to deter anyone from providing one.

Now Randy, you are just talking common sense! This proposal was evidently discussed without that thereof, IMO. Also supporting my theory that most Americans (and all politicians) don't have any!

On unlicensed practice, is the attached a survey? The designer calculated the lot area using a CAD program. He misread the assessor's map. He queered up a $1.3M sale. I asked him if he looked, at least at the record map, and he said no.. The city accepted his site plan. It was accepted by a planner.

I believe this is a survey product.

Allowing things like these to get by and creating havoc for the public, is more important that fining someone for not having a sign on their truck.

I have no issues with those that want to have a sign on their truck, but I don't want to be forced to do something against my business practice and security reasons.
