I wanted to get others opinions on the proposed Record of Survey Fee schedule for Santa Barbara County. Something that caught my attention is that they are proposing a fixed fee for unincorporated areas of the county but a $3400 deposit for incorporated areas unless the cities go into agreement with the county to subsidize that deposit.

9.RECORD OF SURVEY
The County shall subsidize a portion of the DEPOSIT for reviewing a Record of Survey for a project located in the unincorporated area as stated in the Subdivision Map and Document Review Fee Schedule, except that the Financially Responsible Party for which such an application is filed shall be responsible for payment of the remainder of the DEPOSIT in the form of a FIXED FEE in the amounts of $546 for the initial review and $240 for each subsequent review. This Section 9 shall remain in effect for completed project applications submitted prior to July 1, 2026, and as of that date this Section 9 is repealed, unless a later ordinance that is enacted before July 1, 2026, deletes or extends that date. If this Section 9 is repealed, the DEPOSIT for reviewing a Record of Survey as stated in the Subdivision Map and Document Review Fee Schedule shall be replaced by a FIXED FEE in the amounts of $546 for the initial review and $240 for each subsequent review, as adjusted for changes to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in accord with Section 6, CPI Adjustment, of this Fee Ordinance.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the $3400 deposit, the largest deposit based review in the State is $800 in Butte County.

Yolo County charges a $2000 deposit for ROS maps of 4 sheets or more. I paid it recently with a 9-sheet submittal. I shudder to think what the actual cost will come out to be.

The fees have nothing to do with the cost of checking. As with other cities and counties across the state, it goes to service pension debt.

Yep, just like toll bridge fees, and the cost of first class mail delivery ...

I stand corrected, thank you, I only had the $730 marked down for Yolo County.

And both those figures are artificially lower than reality, because Yolo tacks on a 6% "technology fee" to all its map checking fees, so $735 is more like $779 and $2000 becomes $2120.

I don't think Crazy Phil is that crazy after reading this. I think it is more appropriate to rename Yolo County to . . . Yolo Crazy County ! ! ! !
As for Santa Barbara, . . . They must have a good pension plan for their employees, heheheee!
