Crowd Sourced Map Location Assistance
Posted: Tue Sep 21, 2021 11:17 am
We are currently moving our map research from the list based system currently in place to a graphic based system.
Our vendor is creating geo-referenced shape files to associate with each scanned document. They have come across a handful of maps that they cannot determine locations for.
So...I am looking for some crowd sourcing assistance. If you would like to join the effort to figure out where some of these maps represent, send me an email with your contact info. I'll have you added to the "club" and given access to the maps and the procedures to use to evaluate them and provide your knowledge.
From the instructions on our vendors site:
Summary
The Alameda County Surveyor is creating map boundaries for all record maps for use in internal and public applications. Some of the documents date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Because of the age and high degree of development over time, many documents are not easily located based on map references in comparison to modern conditions.
It is hoped there is community interest in resolving some of these outstanding documents. A file management site has been set up to give those interested access to these documents in hopes of locating and defining boundaries for these documents. Below are instructions on file management system use.
Access is requested via Ian Wilson, PLS, Alameda County Surveyor.
