The State Land Commission is presently recruiting for an Assistant Boundary Determination Officer or Associate Boundary Determination Officer. This position is for either someone holding an LSIT (Assistant BDO) or an LS license (Associate BDO). The position is based out of Sacramento and will include the ability to telework. Just because I had the question, others may too.

In the "Working Conditions" section of the CalCareers job announcement site, it says:

• Occasional overnight travel for meetings or to conduct field surveys in various geographic areas of the State.

What percent of the working year would you estimate one to be away from home for Field work at the Associate (PLS) Level?

I would say probably less than 5%. In the last three years, we have had maybe three out-of-town surveys. We have had a couple of years in the past that staff has stayed out for a few weeks. Meaning multiple trips, no weekends. Most trips are also not back to back. Go into the field, collect data, come back, analyze data, plan for another trip, then go out again if needed. I hope this answers your question.

I forgot to add, as an Assistant BDO you would probably go out on any available survey. Again, not very many, just to get field time. One may go as part of a crew or will most likely lead a crew for the experience.
