North Carolina is attempting to water down the licensure and add to deregulation. Their PLS's are fighting it.

The law is providing for a "limited license" that allows folks to practice within defined limits. The experience requirement is 1.5 years experience and an associates degree. Sounds reasonable for the construction contractors already doing the work.

Feeling slightly Nostradamus-y with this news. Might be a good time to look into this LSIT thing. No credential, no work.

I sent mine already, so there's at least one.

Among other things I said money spent on lobbying for this (from the opposition) would be better spent in bolstering numbers of qualified surveyors.

Also explaining that allowing the non-qualified people do small surveys is going to create hazardous conditions among smaller land owners, a consumer segment which is already the most impacted one by marginally performing or non performing surveyors.

And how to this date we are still dealing with problems from eras when licensing was either non existent or less strict, because survey errors tend to get recorded for posterity. It is only going to harm the landowners and undermine the system which preserved the land value - till land is no longer a secure capital investment.
