Google Maps
I just notice that you can see the assessor's parcel lines in Google Maps now. Never noticed it before.
Scary!
There goes my "$100 for a google map by PLS with approximate boundary" idea!

You can use those two CAD programs to import GIS parcels into Google Earth. I do it all the time for reconnaissance an such. However, I know that it's plus or minus.
I haven't noticed it in Google Earth yet (from Google) but noticed it in Google Maps when you zoom in.
When people start seeing parcel lines go through their homes on Google Earth I think business will pick up!

Assessor's lines can also be seen on Zillow.
I love these lines. . . potential clients or their neighbors use them to mark their own property based upon what they see. Soon I get a call to find the real corners (previous map) or to set corners. [a new ROS].
Sometime "hatred and ignorance" is good for business.
And the cool bonus is the neighbors usually return to a friendly relationship.

IMHO there is no legal action to take at all. The GIS train left the station years ago. They do have professional certifications. The more you understand GIS and how it is created, you will be able to create work for yourself by making the argument of why you are right and that raster or vector is wrong. Example: Mr. Good has shown one, Elevation certs another and Slope density ect. ect. We are the keepers of accuracy "Thanks to our Leg. commity"
Mr. Ackerman hits it dead on. Find out wher it is being used and cap. on it.

OK. After spending 15 minutes poking around GM, I can't find what you're talking about. Geesh! There's 1295 possible applications to search through. I did a search using "tax parcels," "assessor's parcels," and "parcels" but none of those worked.Gromatici wrote:I just notice that you can see the assessor's parcel lines in Google Maps now. Can you give us a bit more of a hint of how to find/apply this function?

No wonder my surveys keep going through the middle of peoples homes!
Interesting story: One time I had a potential buyers wife ask me: "How can the assessors maps be wrong?!!!!" They really wanted to buy the property, but the "boundary line" did go through the house, but they had two version from the county GIS. One showed it close to the house and the other was near the middle. She asked me that question after I tried to explain how the County's GIS system and assessors GIS worked versus the on the ground survey we did.
It was emotional to say the least.
