Online Records Site now available

I am pleased to announce the launching of an online records site prepared specifically for the land surveying community. www.tiepoints.com provides links to the 58 counties in California as well as to other survey related agencies. As part of this project, I am also developing a "research tips" page whenever possible. This area includes more detailed information about how to research certain counties and cities as well as the layout of the research area along with their available resources. It is my hope to extend the research tips to all counties and cities as well as important agencies. This will be accomplished by onsite research or visiting the various repositories. Thanks for your kind words. I started this project several years ago as I obtained an old research pamphlet that is now outdated. I will see if I can scan it and upload it. It had every water agency, city, county, utility company etc. in the state and as I recall it was double paged and half an inch thick. I started visting local cities and taking pictures of research archives so people could verify what they were looking for. My goal is to make sure that if someone else works in San Diego or anyplace else, they will know what to look for and where it is. I think by making this information available to everyone, the stature of the profession will be enhanced.

If you have any comments, let me know. I am cleaning a few things up and verifying data. I intend to formally poll the agencies to make sure things are current as several are getting their data on line. I am also very interested in GIS links as they are quite valuable.

Thanks guys. I managed to build this site in between bouts of wretched insomnia. It is a blessing and a curse. I do my best work at 3:00 AM after getting up at 2:00. I don't recommend it though. BTW, the response has been great.

Thanks my friend. I am pretty excited about this as I have gotten some great responses. I am trying to rework ths site so that it is more intuitive and interactive. If you have any suggestions, let me know.
I must share with you a great response I received yesterday from a local firm in San Diego. They wanted to send an employee over to research some county records. The employee had never been there before. After reading the research tips on the site, they were able to get the research done and they knew they were in the right place. I hadn't thought of such a local application. The fellow doing the research fet very confident of what he was doing because he knew what to expect from the pictures. That was neat to hear.
As noted, the next stage is to developing more research tips pages.
