Vineyard Layout

Post by Jim Frame »

A client is putting together a proposal that includes the creation of a new vineyard. He wants to plug in a number for staking about 20 acres of vines in flat ground. What do vineyard builders (planters?) need in the way of layout stakes, i.e. spacing and offsets?

TIA

I have done a lot of vineyard staking in Sonoma County and what I've run into is the vineyard manager will tell you the spacing, ie. 4 foot vines and 12 foot rows. Than you layout a grid staking multiples of 12 (a stake every 96 feet) in the direction of the rows and multiples of four (a stake 100' feet, depending on the ground) in the direction of the vinerows.

Hope this help
