Extension of a Record of Survey

As a general rule, as long as you submit the letter you should be fine. I have a few of these going at any given time and because they are involved in litigation or other proceedings beyond my control, the County Surveyor is quite satisfied. I have also been told that I am one of the few people that actually does this.

In any event, it is my understanding that the primary purpose of the notification is to let others know you are involved with a survey.
I perceive this and treat it as a notification and not a request. There are some things beyond your control.

The last one I worked on, it took the court 2 years to rule on the disputes and there was a restraining order prohibiting me from filing the survey. Fortunately, and just recently the court handed down its decision and I need to incorporate the court order and new property descriptions on the survey as I am now permitted to file.

I explained that I could not estimate when I could file it and I also explained and offered to share my work with anyone who was interested.

These things happen.

I've received several of these where a completion estimate is given, unable to be met, and the surveyor just keeps sending new updates as needed. They usually like some kind of acknowledgment I've received it, and that's the way I treat it, not as some kind of approval.

We also take a letter stating that the survey won't be done, why it won't be done and when the surveyor thinks it will be done.

My feeling is that as long as we have this letter, we're all pretty well covered.
