Most excellent Co. Surveyor's Map Research Website!

Post by Lee Hixson »

Had a 30 minute telephone interview yesterday for the Multnomah County Surveyor opening (Portland area). In preparation I browsed around their web pages, being curious to know how sophisticated they were for in the research department. Short story? Very sophisticated! In fact, I've yet to run across a better one.

It's all based on a very nice GIS database. (It only works, for now, using Internet Explorer.) Played around with it for a while. I like the "Select by Box" option on the top tool bar. Let's you window the area of the county that you're interest in, with a handy little popup that lets you choose what type of map or doc that you're interested in.

On the left is the long list of items you can search for: AP Maps, Bearing Trees, Condo Plats, Field Books, Geodetic Control, Partition Plat, Plat Books, PLO Corners, Roads, Subd., Surveys, and last but not least, you can search for maps by which surveyor prepared them!

Very nice, very efficient, very comprehensive. And, toward the beginning of the interview, I mentioned how great it was, and scored some good points as they replied that they were indeed quite proud of their site. They've raised the bar on all of us.
