Best price for total station battery rebuild?

Well, it's not a survey supply company ($147), and it's not a mail order place out of state ($85). And the winner is?

Batteries Plus: $25!

Just a block away from where I live, better grade of nicad battery, and a turnaround time of only 1 day.

They just opened their franchise store a few months ago and it never dawned on me that they could help me with a specialized, 20-year old total station battery. But after getting the other quotes I kept stalling, then finally decided to see if they could help me. They could. Major savings. Thought I'd pass along the tip for those who've never used them. Good store.

That should be a sticky post. I think I paid $45 at a place in the mid west last year.
The other expensive ones are for the Motorola Radios.

I bought the GPS units I have because they use regular C or D cells. I noticed a new total station that uses regular batteries too.

Sometimes I think these EDM/radio companies are in the battery business not survey equipt business. Like printers, the cost of ink is crazy, esp when you can buy a new printer with ink cartridges cheaper than new cartridges.

I build them myself. They cost $20 to $40 depending on the pack (including packs for the 5600). I buy my cells from www.nicdladyonline.com in Riverside. The cells arrive quickly by mail and it takes me about 20 minutes to build a pack. I was looking at a pack in one of our survey supply stores the other day and they wanted over $300 - I rebuilt the same for about $40. Amazing!
